When a child is absent from school the reason for that absence is required by law. Please telephone the school office every morning of your child’s absence. If you do not do this, a member of school staff will contact you.
Holidays during term time are not permitted. If you take your child on holiday you may be liable to a fixed penalty. If you need to take your child out of school for other reasons, please complete a ‘Leave of Absence’ request form. These are available from the office or below. Please complete the request form prior to taking your child out of school.
Being on time for school is essential to allow your child to make the best possible progress. Not being on time in the morning means that lessons may have started and important information is being missed. The school doors open at 8.35am at Colman Junior School and 8.40 am at Colman Infant School. Registers are taken promptly at 8.50am.
Prompt collection at the end of the school day is also important. Waiting after everyone else has been collected causes anxiety and sometimes distress for children. The end of the school day, at both schools, is 3.10pm. It is essential that you are there on time to collect your child.
Keeping us updated of your situation is important. If you think you are going to be late either at the beginning or the end of the school day, please phone and let us know. The exterior doors are on a self-locking mechanism that closes at 9.00am. After this time, you will need to enter the school through the main school entrance. The office staff will sign your child in before they are taken down to class. After 9.10am your child will be recorded as absent.
