Equality Statement

Colman Infant School’s Equality Statement makes clear our commitment to promote equality and accessibility across our school community. We understand our statutory duty under the Equality Act 2010 to pay ‘due regard’ to the following:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other prohibited conduct;
  • Advance equality of opportunity for people with protected characteristics1;
  • Foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

Colman Infant School has its own unique make up and we are happy to extend a warm welcome to all children and families in our community. We are proud to be known as an inclusive school that celebrates richness of diversity and promotes positive cultural identity.

We work together to create a happy and safe learning environment where each individual is respected and valued. We nurture a sense of belonging and create a culture where everyone, regardless of ethnic background, gender, economic status, family make-up, special educational needs or disability, has the opportunity to thrive and to be the best that they can be.

In order to achieve this we ensure that the principles of equality underpin all our school policies and practices. Therefore this statement should be read in conjunction with our Curriculum Statement and our Teaching and Learning Policy as well as policies as listed below:

  • Special Educational Needs and Disability
  • Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions
  • Accessibility Plan
  • Anti-Bullying Policy
  • PSHE Policy
  • Behaviour Policy

At Colman Infant School we value working in partnership and endeavor to maintain dialogue with pupils, families, staff and governors, to ensure we remain aware of any emerging issues and can address these effectively.
